Lori Gummow, Winnebago County Clerk will tell us about the election process in Winnebago County. A Meet and Greet will follow. 

 Winnebago County Mental Health Referendum. This will be on the ballot that we will vote on. On Feb. 2020 we passed a sales tax to fund Mental Health services in Winnebago County . The sales tax was increased by 1/2 cent for 5 years and will sunset on June 30, 2026.  The Winnebago Cty. Board voted 15-2 on August 6 to approve putting the referendum on the ballot. This referendum will be on the Nov. 5th ballot to ask whether the tax should continue for an additional 5 years after its scheduled sunset on June 30, 2026. Attend and learn what's being done with the money, how the process works, etc.  You can get a complete report from the Winnebago County Mental Health Board for 2023-24 programs. Talk to County Board members at the Meet and Greet.

What are your rights as a voter in Illinois and how elected officials impact the issues you care about.  AAUW co-sponsors this event with LWV & ACLU. The panelists include : ACLU Communications Director Ed Yohnka and Advocacy Director Khadine Bennett.  AAUW member Rosemary Collins will also participate on the panel.  A meet and greet will follow.

When: October 24 from 5-7 PM
Where: Inside Blackhawk Boys and Girls Club (we won't have to worry about weather)
What I need: People to hand out candy.
If we could have "teams" and each team could decorate a table and hand out candy (we would love them to bring candy but we can provide it if necessary)

We will have games, food, and lots of fun!
