Candidate Aprel Prunty, 6th Ward

Candidate Aprel Prunty, 6th Ward

Who are you?

I was born and raised in Rockford. I am a National Board Certified Teacher. I have worked for Rockford Public School District 205 since 1999.

What position are you running for?

I am a candidate running for the 6th Ward Aldermanic seat.

Why are you running?

I want to serve because I think with my background, I would be an asset to the council. I was prompted to run after hearing that the current 6th Ward Alderman might not be running. I wanted to make sure the 6th Ward had an advocate on the City Council.

What led you to this point in Rockford and your career?

My life and service have allowed me to visit Rockford’s diverse array of communities. As a teacher, my job is to help students reach their full potential. Rockford and the 6th Ward have great potential. While I recognize and applaud the growth and opportunity in some of Rockford’s areas, I am concerned about the challenges some of the neighborhoods in the 6th Ward have experienced. It is time to help more of the 6th Ward reach its fullest potential.

What do you see as major issues in your ward/district?

The 6th Ward is diverse as are its needs. By focusing on the constructive development of our young people and their families, I think we can address some of our growth, economic, and safety concerns.

What do you hope to accomplish if you win?

My hope is to help develop the area in such a way that our young people and their families will be proud and will want to return to, invest in, and grow the community.
